Currently planning on finally overhauling my brakes (car is stafrting to seriously pull from a sticking caliper pin, front right is starting to make the metal grind noise, etc. ;). I just went to do some review on the brands available for the rotors and pads and figured I'd request input from the board.
The brands available from the online parts sources I use include
- ATE (teves)
- ATE Power Disc
- Brembo
- Balo
- Zimmerman
I've heard that ATE rotors warp more easily than others, and am shying away from them on that information. I've also heard that Brembo and Balo are both good, but that the Balo rotors wear a bit better. No real knowledge of Zimmerman. Any thoughts? Experience? Information?
Also, looking at FCPGroton's listings I saw different prices/rotors for "vented" and "solid" rotors... I'm not familiar with this delineation. Is FCP talking about single hub/rotor rotors vs. the converted version with separate rotors and hubs? Are these "vented" rotors something different, like rotors with grooves or holes for venting? Might order from them if I can figure out the right rotors to buy (vented are pricier than I can find them elsewhere, but solid look like a slight deal).
As for Pads, I have an unused set of rear pads I plan on swapping in (Roulunds sold under the Dan-Block name) Need to get front pads though... any thoughts? My current padsa are Dan-Block and seem pretty solid, but I'm open to any and all opinions on the matter.
I've already ruled out metal masters, etc., as too hard. Don't need pads warping my new rotors again... I've been down that road and have no interest in revisiting. Some brands I've got available are:
- PBR Axxis
- TMD Friction/Mintex
- Pagid
- Dan-Block
- Nippon
- Textar
Basically just want a pad that is hard enough to last and wear well, but not so hard there is any risk it will warp or damage my rotors. Yeah, the perfect pad... I'm happy for teh pad to wear out faster if it means saving the rotor.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Best,
Rick
