hot hood 200 1982

My 82 GL is in great running condition, work is done on schedule and correctly...oil changes, brakes, hoses, ect. However I have noticed that after a 10 mile trip or so, the hood of the car is always hot to the touch. I dont want my paint to oxidize and /or want engine damage due to hight heat. The odd thing is that the engine isnt overheating. It has been flushed, cleaned, and has a new thermostat and I know things are in good condition. Are there any thoughts on why the heat would be like this? The car only has 149K miles and I am a little concerned.

Thanks in advance
Ryan
