About a week or two ago I posted a thread bitching about how my 1990 240DL never quite idled right since I bought it (@105,000 - now has 127,000). Then it started having a hot restart issue. In the time I owned it I changed:
Water Pump
Main Fuel Pump
Alternator
Starter
Rear shocks and springs
AT Kickdown Cable
Plugs, Cap, Rotor, Wires,
All Filters
Many, many various and assorted relays
etc, etc, etc,
And despite all that, the car never ran right. So when it developed the hot start issue I was very pissed and moaned on this board how I was beginning to think VolVos were crap. Well, everyone on this board wrote that the hot restart must have been a result of a bad impulse sensor. I tried to remove the old one - it crumbled - I broke the aluminum bracket - had it towed to a mechanic - he droped the tranny - changed the bracket and sensor - and whammo - the car now idles without dying. It is like a new, well, younger car. Actually, the car never ran as well as it is now running. The idle is so much smoother - and it no longer dies at red lights. The hot start issue is resolved, and I am much, much happier. I really wnat to thank those of you who, despite my childish rants and raving, wrote me back and helped me. This board is great. All I need to change now is the timing belt. Thank you all!
