Transmission Kicked-Down & won't 200 1989

All,

I've had my share of overdrive relay related incidents, but this one is different.
THE FACTS:
Car is an '89 B23F automatic w/ 238,600 mi.
Was driving for about an hour on the highway this morning when transmission kicked down.
The kickdown arrow did not light up.
The kickdown arrow toggled when I tested it in a parking lot and while driving at a low speed.

I added a quart of automatic transmission fluid dexron micron, but it did not restore the transmission's ability to get into the next gear (or go over 50 mph).

I am really in need of my car, and am really strapped for ca$h (am in middle of nasty divorce and custody fight and its taking all my money). Things are really rough right now.

Thanks in advance for your questions, diagnoses and estimates.
