prepump problems 200 1986

I replaced my in tank pre-pump with a Scan Tech pump about 6 months ago. It recently started making a lot of noise. Then the noise started to vary, louder then lower. I filled up the tank and there was no change in the symptoms. Today there is no noise and I cannot hear the pump at all. Any thoughts on what is going on? Is this new pump failing?
