Upper shock mounts 700 1990

What's an upper shock mount?

I just put bilsteins in my 90 740T and I recall the rubber doughnut that goes under the shock nut...is that what you mean?

There's an upper strut bearing, a strut mount that the bearing goes into, a bumpstop on the stock strut cartridge that isn't necessary on the bilsteins, but I'm at a loss as to what an upper shock mount is on a car with mcpherson struts?
