88' 244, stalls in reverse and when going up hill... idea??? 200 1988

Check the connections at the air mass meter (AMM) in the LF fender. If this plug is disconnected, or the pins are not making contact or the aMM is bad, it'll stall under heavy load.
I dealt with this for a month or two last year with an 87 244.... it hasn't reoccurred since fixing the AMM connection.
As for stalling in reverse, it did that too, and I can only suggest cleaning out the throttle body and setting the idle properly. If you've never done the throttle body, it's time. The 700/900FAQ has good details.
