PIR results, broken tranny, (story) 140-160 1968

Okay, here goes, first run, car ran well, but I had no traction throughout first gear. So I had lots of room for improvement there. The timeslip reads 18.8s for that run. I'll have pictures posted on my website of the actual timeslips, and I have my timeslips from last year on there too. Before my second run, I lowered the air pressure from 30 psi in both tires, to 27 in the left, and 25 in the right(my right rear was the spinning one). And then I moved my spare to the right side of my trunk as well. Then, unlike my first run, I did a short burnout to warm up the tires. So when I launched it, it gripped really well. Much better than I expected, and my engine bogged down to like 1500/2000 rpms. And with my worn out DGV carb, it choked/stuttered all through first gear with no power... Farther on during that run, I for some reason (I don't know why,) I just let off the gas pedal, then was like, crap! what am I doing??? So that run sucked as well with a time of 19.7seconds, ouch. I was gonna go home after that run, but since it gripped, I new I could improve quite a bit on my first run, and since I knew that it can grip well, I decided to have one more go at it...

And this is how it went, I did another burn out, and at the line, I revved it up more than last time. Then, on the last yellow, I dropped the clutch, (insert loud metal snapping sound), and snapped first gear... Too much traction, too many revs, too good of a clutch. I should have just slipped the clutch, I would've had much better results every time. But for some reason, I didn't think about that until after I broke my car...

Okay, so I put it in second, then third and fourth, short shifting at like 2000 rpms. and finished that run in 42 seconds. My dad tells me that the people were cheering when I finally finished it so that made me happy. I guess most people who break their cars just stop and get towed off the track. BUT, I own a Volvo, and finished the run. Hehehe ( I like to think this isn't so bad after all). And then, I made it all the way back home out in Hillsboro, at like 40 mph...

Peace,
Kyle
