Aftermarket Air Conditioning Conversion 200

When I bought an 88 240 on a trip to Florida a couple years back the Air Con worked fine. However this summer it failed to work even though the compressor was going fine. Everything seemd to be working, but no cold air. I took it into the heavy equipment shop I work at for a recharge of the system and the technician said he couldn't hook up. It wasn't r-12 or r-134. He said it must be something that was used during the transition from R-12 to R-134 years, whenever that was. I'm now faced with a system that nobody seems to want to work on. Does anyone have an idea what type of refridgerant this thing might have in it? The connectors aren't compatible with either of the availible refridgerants. What course of action will I need to take to get it up and running again next summer?
