Help! Turbo brick is whistling/wheezing 700

Yesterday I was on the freeway and everything was running fine with the 87 760T. However, when I went to accelerate for a pass I heard a whistling/wheezing sound and the car hesitated/lost power. It felt like it was being held back. It never died and when I let off the accelerator it continued along although at a slower speed. I got off the road checked under the hood and there are no blatent fluid leaks and no over-heating. I got back on the road and checked the gauges and it appears when I go to accelerate the turbo boost gauge shows the normal increase accept right before it goes into the yellow mark the car starts to make the whistling/wheezing and I lose power until I lift my foot off the accelerator and it drops back down. I was able to nurse the car home as long as I stayed clear of entering the yellow range on the boost gauge. Did I lose my turbo or is it something worse?
