Burnt out wiring harness 200 1993

I’d heard of the dreaded bio-degradable harness in earlier cars, but didn’t realise it could affect a 93.
I suddenly noticed that even though I’d switched off the engine, the battery light and oil light were still on. They went out on restarting, and the engine ran perfectly, but they came back on again when I stopped.
I realised that the two were connected, sharing the harness down by the alternator, and there was the problem. The heavy red wire from the alternator to the starter motor had almost burnt out, taking with it the smaller wires to the oil pressure sender and the wire to the ignition light. I replaced the wires, and everything is now fine.
It seemed to me that this is a likely weak spot because the 3 wires are bound together and then were a tight fit between the engine block and the alternator bracket. Also the red wire is always live, even with the key off.
Much better surely to route them over the top of the alternator? Also that way there is more space to put a clamp on the oil filter.

Fortunately no damage done. I had feared that the short might have damaged the alternator or some other component.
