Help! Blower Motor 1980 Wiring 200 1980

Has anyone out there done a heater blower motor replacement on a 1980 240? I've been following the iPD instructions, and as usual, they're wrong. The instructions say to unplug the Red wire from the motor and to cut the Black wire. My motor has 6 wires going into the top, and I don't see any obvious way of disconnecting them. Looking further in the instructions, it looks like I'll be rewiring the switch anyway (these 6 wires go from the motor to the switch), so it seems like I won't be reusing these 6 wires and could just cut them. Can anyone confirm this? I don't have the new parts in hand yet so I'm not sure what wiring will come with the new motor.

There is no resistor on the 1980, has anyone used the iPD kit and had success installing the resistor for the updated motor? The instructions don't mention any additional steps but I can see from the picture that it's not going to be obvious.

Also, the instructions mention running a wire to the thermostat switch - I can't seem to find it (my 245 doesn't have AC, is that why??), and the instructions mention starting the engine to determine which is the switched side - too bad the engine doesn't start with all the wiring disconnected. I don't think the people who wrote the iPD instructions ever actually did the job.

Finally, the instructions mention drilling a hole in the bottom of the case through which the new wires will run - why not just run them through the existing hole in the top? Drilling in that spot is going to be next to impossible.

Any help with wiring would be greatly appreciated - Thanks!!
