Repost B230E alternator 200

Hi,

Initially I posted this in the 700 forum then it occurred to me that B230E was more readily found in 200 series. I think the US never got any 740 with B230E? So I thought this forum would be a better place to get some help.

I've just finished doing the bushings and the voltage regulator for my alternator. FYI the alternator on my engine is in front of the oil filter. It's a double belt configuration with a 10 mm adjustment bolt on top. One bushing on the engine block holding the adjustment bracket and two underneath the alternator.

Previously the alternator was cocked towards the water pump pulley which as a result the square looking nut thing (that the adjustment bolt screws into) is resting on the water pump pulley. The pulley has "eaten" into almost half of that nut exposing the thread for the bolt inside. Adjustment bolt was also bent.

I've put in a new bolt and a new "adjuster" nut (don't know the proper name for it). alternator belts nicely alligned. Adjuster nut now is not touching the pulley but it is SO CLOSE to it for my liking. I'd say 1/8 inch or less.

Question is - is this how it is supposed to be? Another thing is that the adjuster nut actually can be positioned 2 ways - with either the bolt on top or the bottom if you swing it around 180 degrees. If the bolt is pointing down then it would be clear of the pully BUT then CLOSE to the alternator fan instead! Haynes does not have any picture of an alternator with the same setup as mine. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures to make things easier.

Any B230E owners out there that can help me? A picture would be most helpful.

Thanks a lot
