For your 1990 760 the there are two Lamp Failure Relays. The one for the brake lights is in the trunk just about one foot behind the power antenna. You can see it in the attached picture. Check it for defects. Terminal 12 is power from the brake light switch. Terminal 14 is the left brake light, terminal 13 is the right brake light, and terminal 10 is the third brake light.
