Overdrive questions (just 2) 1800 1964

I'm a long time 1800 owner, but had never driven one until recently.
A l-o-n-g, every-last-freakin-detail rework happened. Now I'm a driver!!

Q#1 - Should I use the clutch when switching on the OD? Engagement seems rather harsh otherwise, even while avoiding acceleration.

Q#2 - I have a toggle switch to engage the OD, and it stays engaged for 4th gear if I forget to switch off. Is it simple to go to the later relay that switches off if a downshift occurs? Actually I'd like to see a disengagement when I hit the brakes too.
I have a '66 junker that must have those parts, because it has just a momentary contact button on the dash beside the indicator lamp.

TIA
Gene
