My 85' 240 is still driving me nuts. Two years ago I replaced the pressure regulator, I recently replaced main and Aux fuel pump, adjusted the throttle switch, checked the Temp sensor, fuel injectors using bentley. Also all electrical fuses have been checked. The car seems to stall after some driving, 2-3 miles. It is loosing power and there is a strong smell of carbon and it seems to be bucking off for a while. The car then stalls but most of the times it starts after some trying. Idle seems to be fine as cold and warm starting. I tried both a spare fuel pump relay and ECU and still the same problem. The air flow sensor seems to be working since I am familiar with problems of such kind. The stalls happed more frequent in warm weather and the car seems to be more tolerant in cold.
Some other time I had problem starting the car the engine flooded and the spark plugs were wet with gasoline. I do not know if this is a spark problem. The only things I haven't checked/replaced are the Distributor and ignition computer. Could these cause the problem?
HELP.....Does anyone know any good Volvo indy mechanic in North Jersey who can sort this kind of problems?
I need to pass the car inspection in 2 months and I am also planning for a V8 conversion...my life dream...but I was planning to do this after new years.
I might have to change my plans ;-)
Thanks
