Wind Noise - Loose Window 700

I'm finally getting around to fixing some wind noise that I've had for years on my 1988 744Ti. The first place I went on the BB was the 700/900 FAQ and I found a description that matches my problem exactly.

Here's the post:

The electric window on the drivers side of my 1990 740 wagon shifts left and right a bit, and when you roll the window up, sometimes it does not fully seat on the back side, and I get a lot of wind noise. To fix it, I roll it down, and roll it back up while pushing the glass towards the back of the car. [Diagnosis:] I think the problem is the plastic roller in a plastic rail (the one which is more or less under the door lock knob).

Does anyone have any other suggestions? The diagnosis just isn't enough. I've tried adjusting the window regulator and tightening the nuts but that doesn't do the trick.

With the interior door panel off so that I can get to the source of the problem, I noticed that the windows front edge shifts up and down when I push on the bottom of the window. It seems to have a lot of play that causes the window to shift as it gets to the top of the window frame. There's just too much play in what seems to be the scissor lifts of the window regulator.

Is it time for a new power window regulator?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
