Speedometer problems 200 1986

I recently removed the speedometer from my wife's 240. The odometer had stopped working. After some repairs to the drive gear the odometer is working fine as WAS the rest of the cluster. About a week after the repair the speedometer quit working. I was curious as to what might have caused this. I am pretty sure the electrical connection is right as it has a plug that will allow the connection to go on only one way and it had worked correctly for about a week after the repair. Short of the connection falling off does anyone have any ideals? I checked the FAQ but they seemed to be mostly concerned with the odometer. I am going to remove the cluster this week to jump the temperature compensation board and thought I would kill two birds with one stone.
Thanks.
