88 740 GLE WAGON REAR END NO GOOD HOW MUCH TROUBLE TO REPLACE??

Greetings:

I have just purchased a 1988 740 gle wagon silver (235,000 miles) (auto) non-turbo for 100.00!!!!! All it needs is a rear end (excellent shape , even the ceiling). When placed into gear it coughs and spits something terrible. Otherwise all else is good. What kind of trouble would it take/costs to replace the rear end. I have 3 other Volvos too! My other 2 740 gle wagons have 393,000 miles and 180,000 miles on them. My 760 gle 4 door (non turbo) has 185,000 miles! Also is it a lot of trouble to replace the rear shocks on my 90 760 gle 4 door sedan (multi-link with noviats). What say you?

thanks in advance!
