Throttle Body Cleaning...DOH! 700 1990

Hi All,

I tried this before, so if it shows up twice..sorry.

I thought that I would report on my first ever TB cleaning adventure.

My '90 740T Wagon has been idleing kinda rough, stalling when cold and just not happy.

Using a modified wrench, I was able to remove the TB without disturbing the throttle position switch..is that what it's called? Anyway, I used solvent, a brush, and rags to really clean the insides. I used compressed air to clear the vacuum ports and was feeling pretty good about myself.

Using a new gasket(and the modified wrench), I bolted everything together, blew the vacuum hoses from the canister out to make sure that they were clear, an dropped the hood.

Here's where the plot thickens.

I started Sven up, and he dutifully sprang to life, idleing like a champ. I depressed the gas pedal, and..................nothing. I thought to myself, "maybe I forgot to re-connect the plug the goes to the TPS". Sure enough, I had.

I connected the sensor and re-started Sven. He again started and was purring like a Swedish kitten. I decided to take him out to revel in the improved performance and smooth idle at the ol' stoplights.

Now here is where Fate reared it's ugly rear. My garage is at the top of a pretty steep hill. I put Sven in reverse and proceeded into the street. After shifting into "D", I pressed on the gas, and...........nothing...great idle, but nothing.

I decided to "idle" back up to the garage, but Sven just couldn't pull it off...Ya know?? You really gotta remember to re-connect the throttle linkage before the road test!

Boy, do I feel stupid!

Sorry that this is so long, but I had to vent. I think I feel better now.

BTW, Sven runs wonderfully now.
