CLUTCH JUDDER PROBLEM 740 GLE 1989 700 1989

My 1989 Volvo 740 GLE suffers from clutch judder when moving off from rest. Strong vibrations come from the transmission while engaging the clutch.

Once it is moving, changing up and down through the gears is normal.

It has done 150,000 miles and it has a 4-speed gearbox plus overdrive on 4th gear.

I had this problem on an earlier 740 and I cured it by replacing the gearbox rubber mounting block.

I have replaced the gearbox rubber mounting block on my present car, and it appeared to cure the problem temporarily.

But after 2,000 miles the clutch judder reappeared.

Do you have any ideas what is causing this?

Should I replace the clutch?
