Anyone successfully remove lens from body of side marker lamp?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean...

By rewire, do you mean remove the single-filament bulb, replace with a dual filament bulb, and replace the built in connector?

The LEDs I was thinking of using have a 30-degree approx. viewing angle, and so I'd 3 of them at approx 45 from one another on a horizontal plane, to use either as the flasher or parking lamp circuit. Probably better as the parking lamp circuit since there's less heat. In addition, the transition between ON-OFF states of LEDs is a lot quicker than incandescents, too quick for the eye in my opinion, and consequently would also not match the aesthetics of the front and rear incandescent turn signals.
