first time timing belt changer has trouble loosening parts 200 1989

Volvo Fans,

I am attempting to change the timing belt on my 1989 240 DL sedan for the first time.

I am having trouble getting 2 parts off or loose.

First, I a having a heck of a time getting the air conditioner compressor loose enought to remove the belt from the crankshaft pully. I loostened the tensioning bolt and its holding nut. I also loostened a holding nut on the back side of the compressor. The thing will only move about 1/2 inch now. It seems to be sliding OK in its adjusting grooves. Cant figure it out although I did get it loose enough to pry the belt off.

Now I am having trouble getting the crankshaft pully off. I dont know how to hold the crankshaft from turning so I can break the nut.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Regards,
