Alternator update from a mechanical idiot 200

Hi..

Thanks for great responses to my query about a problem with my '79 245.

An update to this point: I took the battery in today and it was stone-dead. Can't be charged. Took the alternator out. The shop pronounced that dead, too.

I bought an alternator and a battery and will install them tomorrow. Here is something I did not know...my battery seat is totally rusted out and my battery was kinda freefloating..the shop claims that it is possible that could have caused a short that would have killed both the alternator and battery.

I also bought a new battery seat and some brackets to hold it in place.

Um, am I doing ok so far?
