Help engine gone mad 700

I think it more of an electrical problem I have as it happen only some time. I started tonight again and When driving or accel about 40mph the tach just drops from about 3000 to 0 rpm and then starts to catch on again. but I have no control over it. Starting requires at least 6 trys and the same hard to catch on (idle) tach jumps up and down between 0-1500rpm.
what could it be
