Panhard rod design change around '78? 200

Does anyone know if the panhard rod design, particularly at the point where it mounts to the axle tube, changed between '76 and '78 sometime? I have a set of IPD sway bars (late style) that I'm trying to put on my '76 (has under-axle exhaust) and I can't get the bar forward enough to get between the panhard rod and axle tube.

I'm thinking that I'll elongate the mounting holes on the sway bar, but I'm wondering if a later panhard rod would be the better solution...

Thanks,
Eric
