After a head rebuild - am I being paranoid?

Had the head rebuilt - my son and I re-installed it. I am on the second day of driving the car (745T).

All seems to be well, other than I keep thinking that I can smell coolant when I shut it off.

There is no loss in the expansion tank - and no visible signs of any leaks. I tell myself that when I took the head off - there was some coolant that would have went down on the back side of the motor/trans area - and this has to burn off.

One other thing. As I drove up in the drive just a bit ago - the motor is cooling down - and popping - metal expanding/contracting - that kind of noise. I open the hood - all seems well. It just never seemed this loud before.

I guess I just have the willies about doing this for the first time. Do I have anything to worry about?
