Definitive information about auto titles.

Thanks for the education on titles. I tend to see too many cars in the junk yard with what apperars to be minor damage. Just seems like a waste. I was in Costa Rica a few years ago and while traveling around, I saw more than one shop putting together a car that looked like it was total junk (Not to mention the car situation in Cuba). There must be something between these two extreems. I was in the indie garage where I take my car and they were rebuilding a late model 960 or S90 that was totaled with only minor damage to the right front corner. Mostly body panels, but a little damage to the shock tower. This car was totaled because both air bags deployed. The air bag repalcement cost pushed the repair bill above the limit. (Insurance companies refuse to install used air bags.)

Interesting about Wisconsin. Maybe they have a deal with their neighbors in Detroit. Maybe they are using this as a method to keep older cars off the road to meet federal polution standards.

I have seen more than one reference to Alabama supplying titles to cars that were sold on Bill of Sale only from any place on the map. I think a lot of T-buckets come with Alabama titles also. This may be why the salvage titles are "worthless". No insult to the great state of Alabama intended. I quite enjoyed my stay on the beach there last summer. Every state is different, and I have had questions about this practice for a while.

Dan
