Numbering and logo switched sides 200

I've been very attentive to the 240s that are on my college campus, and today I noticed a new beige/tan 244 GL that I hadn't seen before. Examining it, I presumed that it was an '89 model since I thought that was the last year the "GL" designation was used, and so I was really impressed with its great condition. However, I noticed that on the trunk the "240 GL" was on the left and the "Volvo" was on the right. My '89 244 GL has the Volvo logo on the left and the model designation on the right. What's the deal? Was it rearranged after purchase or did certain years have the logo and numbers switched?
