The noise in my M47 is getting louder.. can it be saved? 200

The whirring sound is getting louder in my M47. It seems to mostly make the noise when the input shaft turning. It is quiet at a stop with the clutch in. It makes the noise when driving in all forward gears except 4th. I am guessing that this is because the gearbox is 1 to 1 in 4th. What part fails in these gearboxes? Is it possible to replace the part? I know I can swap in an m46, but that would be a real hassle. The overdrive would probably need rebuilding, I'd have to wire the overdrive, new driveshaft, I'd have to fit the ignition sensor etc. I would rather keep the M47 going if I can.
