0 280 000 541 ECU interchangablity 700

I recently visited many bone yards searching for an ECU part #0 280 000 541 to replace my questionable bad unit for my '86 740T.
All searching came short and the best I could find was an ECU from an '87 GLE.

Its number is 0 280 000 544. The car runs with a noticible richer exhaust smell, has a shakey unstable idle at warm up. It idles much lower than the 541, so low it will cut out and stall while coasting.

My question is: Could I re-tune my base specs around the yunk yard ECU thus probably improving the fuel mileage issue and correcting the idle?

Will the fact I have a turbo affect the GLE computer compatiblity?

Are the years close enough together to not cause any conflict? ie: an extra sensor or different wiring

Am I barking up the wrong tree in assuming the switch will be successfull or easy for that matter?

All opinions welcome
