I'm too RICH! 200

Hi,
I'm not rich but my car is running too rich. I have a 1985 245ti with K-jet and it's doing something really weird. When it's cold in the morning and I try to acclerate before the engine is warm it will go really rich. I have a autometer air-to-fuel ratio guage so I can see what the car is doing when I accelerate. When I first hit the gas it goes half way into the rich area, the it geos further into the rich area. When this happens the car ceases to accelerate. Then about a second later it gets back to the half way rich range and starts to accelerate normally. I want to know if the car really can be getting so rich that it doesn't run well. Also I want to know if you guys have any idea about why it is doing this. I know the car is supposed to run richer when it's cold, but is it running too rich?
