240 sunroof won't open 200

The sunroof in my newly acquired '80 242GT worked fine for a while, but suddenly the handle refuses to turn more than 1 & 1/4 turn from the closed position. It stops at the 3:00 position as I look up at the handle. This is the spot where it always had a "stiff spot" while opening, even when it did work. I haven't forced it too much, as I don't want to make matters even worse.

I didn't find anything in the archives about such a situation. Did I miss something ? And if not, does anyone have any suggestions on a starting point ?

At least the glass is half-full -- the thing is stuck shut, not open.
