Backup light fail 200 1989

My 89 240 backup light has been out for a while, I’ve try everything just can’t get it work. Is there a relay for these lights? Someone told me there’s a switch on top of the transmition, but I cannot find it, is it hard to find (or fix)? I have a Hayes manual but it does not give me all the detail I wanted, if anyone can help me with a detail diagram would be appreciated.
