Keep in mind that I recently installed a dawes boost controller, but barely have it set above stock (the increase in boost response/torque is impressive enough by itself)
anyway...
Usually I dont attend street races, but 2 of my friends are moving away monday and they wanted to go, so we went to the local street races they have here on fridays. I had no intentions of running, and we had a few people with us so I was driving the Volvo tonight. There were some really cool cars there, but as usual, most of it was bull**** civics. There was this one kid in an LX 4 door, complete with fart-can, a primered wing that was absolutely HUGE and washer lights.. etc.. you get the picture. Well this kid was racing everything and getting demolished every time (he even lost to an '87 integra).
I decided, how funny would everyone think it is for this kid to lose to a Volvo wagon. So I challenged him, just for fun. He was like "a Volvo? Cmon man, that's a luxury car, it's not for racing". His friends put him up to it and he agreed. While we were staging the giggles already began. People were like "OMG look at this kid in the station wagon!" Some people were laughing beacuse they knew what was about to happen. My friend was yelling jokes like "yo, you're mom's gonna be pissed!". The flagger started the count, so I started brake-torquing it, getting the turbo nice and loaded up.
He dropped his hands and I delivered a holeshot this kid couldnt have seen coming in a million years. According to at least 5 people I talked to afterwards, I pulled about 1 1/2 cars on him off the line alone. I had him by about 4+ cars by 70mph, so I put the hazards on a bit and shut it down. The kid pulled up next to me and I said "holy ****!", like I was surprised or something. When I got back, people were still laughing and cheering me on.
According to my friend, my car squatted down on it's ass and took off like a bat out of hell. Apparently, when I left the line like that, the whole crowd of people standing at the sides (at least 100 people) ran right to the middle and started cheering and laughing their asses off. There was not one person that wasnt near peeing themselves. The kid in the civic parked his car and didnt race anyone else for the rest of the night. I'm sure his friends will be clowing on him for months to come. He did take it like a sport though, there was no beef or anything which is good on his part.
Damn I wish I had this on video.
