Fading Lights and Squealing 200 1985

I just purchased a 1985 Volvo 240 Sedan. My regular headlights do not come on, although the highbeams do. I have to hit my left taillight to turn it on. The lights in the dashboard and gear shift "thingy" are faint. Do I need a new fuse or is it the wiring that I need to check?

Also, it has developed the nasty habit of squealing when in motion. I checked to see if it pulled in any given direction when I drove with my hands off the steering wheel. It seemed to go straight.

What should I look for in order to resolve these problems?
