M47 - shift lever has excessive lateral sloppiness..... how can I fix it??? 200 1987

On my 87 245 with over 300k miles - the shift lever is very sloppy side to side...

I thought that 1st and 2nd gear were developing problems- then today a light went on b/w my ears - the lazer beam out the sides was distracting - but the folks around got used to it quick enough.

I had a brainwave that the lateral slop was causing the shift lever to contact the reverse "gate" and not let the lever move enough to the left to line up with 1st gear...

A pull up on the reverse lock-out ring - and into 1st smooth as can be...

So fixing the shift problem is easy - I shall just adjust the reverse lockout gate.

But what takes the slop out of the shifter - it is sloppy in all gears - as sloppy as a lady of the night in a boomtown brothel.....
