STUCK BONNET (HOOD) 240GL 200

I've replaced the spring which connects with the latch that secures the bonnet.
Unfortunately I've used a spring which is too 'heavy duty' so consequently when I try and pull the lever to release the bonnet nothing happens.I've now got the proper spring supplied by my local Volvo dealer but can't fit it as the bonnet just will not move !!!

Anybody out there got any ideas without me smashing the radiator or taking a crowbar to it ?? All suggestions will be greatly received.
