Brake lights tied to Interior lights?? 700 1992

I recently bought a '92 740T wagon which has been plagued with electrical problems. I've had to replace the radio fuse, the ABS fuse, and the window fuse, and it would seem (read: I hope) that the only problem left is the fact that the brake lights seem to be connected to the interior lights.

With the car off, I press the brake pedal and the brake lights AND the interior lights come on.

With my foot off the brake, I turn the parking lights OR headlights on (both of which illuminate the interior lighting) and the brake lights come on AND the shift lock releases.

The car WAS equipped with wiring for trailer lights, and thinking this could have been the problem, I removed the controller and wiring (except for the wiring under the carpet to the lights) - problem persists. I'm hoping that when I find this problem, it will solve my "fragile fuse" problem as well.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kevin.
