OD slipping 700

i have a '87 740 turbo with manual tranny. My OD starts slipping if it get's warm, or it doesn't engage when it's warm or longer driven. I changed the trannsmission oil and cleaned the filter (oil looked still good and filter were not blocked). As i understand if the solenoid is the bad guy it stays in OD-position, am i correct?? So, with my understanding it can not be the solenoid - please correct me, if i'm wrong. The only thing i didn't check so far is the OD-relay. Or is it just the high mileage (240km) that it doesn't work anymore and i have to rebuilt the OD unit? Does the OD unit of an automatic fit on the M46?? (manual trannys are hard to find here around in California)
Thanks for any idea - i don't wanna destroy my OD by keeping driving
stefan
