740 GLE auto shifter button/backup lights 700 1986

I just noticed I don't have any backup lights (86 740 GLE wagon). Not sure how long this has been the case. Fuses and bulbs ok. The automatic shifter knob center button has popped loose. I red the FAQ but not sure if that's my problem or not. I took the console cover off and there seems to be a little rod with two white circular bushings on it that comes out of what appears to be the right side of the neutral safety switch. Is this what the rod from the pop up button connects too? If it is is this why I have no backup lights? If not I'll probably go ahead and replace the neutral safety switch because I'm really more concerned with fixing the backup lights than fixing the popped up shifter button. Suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

Paul
