LUMPY IDLE,LOOSE HOSE. 200 1985

Hi there,my 240GLE B230E is nearly stalling, idling at about 750rpm. It feels as though there may be a vacuum leak. At the firewall where the vacuum economy gauge hose comes out to the left of the rocker cover , there is an adjacent hose of around 8mm inside diameter that is about four feet long, passing around behind the engine past the transmission dipstick to flop around the starter motor. This hose has been connected to something as the end of it is flared, I would much appreciate your advice on where this hose starts and ends and whether that would affect the idling as stalling in traffic is not a good look for such a finely engineered automobile.
