Drivers side power seat cable problem. Has anyone seen this before??? S90-V90

The forward/rearward motion if the seat is driven by a single motor with two cables and two gearboxes. The console side cable appears to have a shaft that is too short and it disengages from the motor causing that side of the seat to lock up. I purchased a new cable and it is exactly the same dimensions as the original. This will not fix the problem so I did'nt install it. The motor is running properly so a new motot won't help either. The gear drive on that side of the seat is OK also. The motor has visual signs of where the cable is barely engaged and it has been slipping at this union.
Does anyone know of a fix for this problem??
