Volvo Starter 200 1980

Car wouldnt start the other morning before work. So i go check it out this weekend(the starter). Hanging there is the solonoid. It had magically unbolted it self from my starter. Ive been wrestling with getting the starter off and now have it off. Got some new bolts for solonoid. My ? is, that flat rectangular peice with the hole in it on the tip of the solonoid that goes into the housing, Am I just supposed to push this in to the housing or does it hook in there or am I missing something. Or should I just buy a new starter or solonoid. The book I have is useless at explaining this. I need help. PLeeze:(
