240 Had no power on Saturday but it was fine last night??!!!? 200 1985

Saturday we got into our 85 240 to drive to lunch and it had no power at all.... it cut off a few times so i drove it home. I got in it to take it to the shop last night and it was fine... it cut off once. I ended up leaving it at home until i can figure out whats wrong with it. Some people have mentioned that it could be the fuel filter. I just changed the plugs and air filter a month ago and fixed a pretty bad exhaust leak. Whats your opinion on this? Is it fuel or something else? Any help or advice is appreciated.
