On cold mornings my 91 940 T has the case of the shakes. I have noticed that when the temperature falls bellow 55F or so that the steering wheel shakes pretty bad in the morning for the first ten miles. I have had the tires balanced on the new style machine. That made a huge difference at highway speeds. That shake can only be felt in the steering wheel. Let go of the wheel and I cannot feel it at all.
In the last few months I have changed the motor and transmission mounts. All the front bushings have been changed in the last year less the tie rod ends. My steering rack has a hard(stick) spot in it where it hangs up. If I pull the steering wheel with a little extra force it will pass by that point. This only happens when the temp is below 55F also. Is it possible that I have hydraulic surging in the rack? Rack, pump and reservoir are original to the car, which is pushing 205k. Tire are new, and alignment is current.
By the way, the last time I bought tire from Firestone, which was a big mastake in and off itself, one good thing did come of it. After they screwed up telling me they had the tire etc. and I sat there forever waiting, they sold me a lifetime alignment for 60 bucks. Considering I will have the car for many more years it was a great deal. I use it every six months.
