Turbo black smoke 200 1985

My 84 245ti is finnaly running with a used fuel pump that was laying around in my tool box.I can't remember what year this pump was bought for. Now that i got it running it is running what seams to be rich and black smoking and has no power.My question is, could i have too much fuel pressure and how do i check it?What kind of tool do i need and where can i get one.Thanks for all replies. M.J.
