Rear end collison -- replace or keep bumper impact absorbers 700

Our 1990 740 was rear ended. Speed at impact is not known -- likely near 5 MPH.

Because we mounted a trailer light connector on the top of the bumper, we can determine the bumper and impact absorbers were driven forward about 3". The body panel above the bumper and below the trunk lid was damaged by the clip that attaches the trailer light plug.

How does one determine if the impact absorbers need to be replaced? Is there a Volvo specification?

Thanks

Curt
