Seats 200

I and just about anybody with a volvo that has reached puberty has had a similar problem. for what it's worth, (and for me it was free!) I relied on an extremely easy fix. in order to avoid beating myself up with those springs (they tend to have pretty sharp points on the ends), rather than replace the grid, I just ripped it out.
and in it's place i used a nylon tie down strap. i suppose a ratcheting one would work, but I used one with the friction clamp.
all i had to do was get the seat completely out, and flip it over.
on each side of the underside of the seat there are either 4 or 5 springs attached to the frame, the other side of the spring is a loop to hold on to the (currently rotten) seat grid.
thread the nylon strap through the accessible loops of the springs, much like you would run a shoe lace through each eyelet, eventually the end meet up, and you can pull it taught to lock it. I also stuck a piece of fairly substantial foam rubber between the seat foam and the strap, but in hindsight, the carpet piece described earlier would have been better.
anyway, i had the stuff lying around, i took all of 5 minutes once i had the seat out. and really stiffens up the seat nicely.
