My experience is with an '81 but the warning light circuit may not have changed thru '84. The warning lights are connected to battery voltage on one side and through a diode to the small wire on the alternator on the other side. The individual sensors are connected between their light and each diode. So when either a sensor switch closes and connects to ground or the alternator output is less than battery voltage a light comes on. All this applies to those lights that normally come on when the key is in the run position before starting. I have a diagram I came email if you like. Unfortunately its 80kb so to big to post.
